Epiglottitis

 Definition: Epiglottitis is an inflammation and swelling of the epiglottis usually caused by a bacterial infection ,it can cause pain  when swallowing, sever sore throat and difficult breathing epiglottitis can effect people any age it effect males more then females at rate

CAUSES

 ◆bacterial infection haemophilus influenza type b

◆streptococcus  

◆pneumococcus 

CLINICAL FEATURES

Drooling   (uncontrollable saliva)

High grade fever  

 sever sore throat

 abnormal sound when breathing(stridor)

 difficult or pain when swallowing 

 anxious

 difficult breathing

DIAGNOSIS

◆ complete blood count

◆chest or throat neck x ray

TREATMENT

◆ ceftriaxone 50mg/kg daily 7 or 10 days

◆ampicillin 50mg/kg every 6 hours 7 days

◆acetaminophen  30mg/kg per needed time
